Womens Football "We Should Be Just As Strong" - Rachel

Rachel Unitt As the opening match of the season approaches, Fulham and England star Rachel Unitt is confident that her treble-winning team from last season can build on their success. Fulham are no longer a full time professional team but Rachel told Women's Soccer Scene that she has a lot of faith in new manager Marieanne Spacey, who will lead the team for the first time in the match.

"I think she'll be a good manager for us, she's a good coach," says Rachel. "Marieanne's been away with England and done some coaching to get some experience so it'll be a good season hopefully."

But can the season start with a trophy in the first match? "Well, I'm looking forward to the game! We played them three times last season and beat them three times but Doncaster, like us, have a new manager and it will be tough because Doncaster have good players."

The summer has seen a large turnaround of players for the Cottagers but Rachel does not see this as a problem. "We've lost five, including the foreign players who went back home but there are several new ones including Michelle Hickmott who is a great player with a good left foot, Corinne Yorston who is a good player and several others.

Plus, of course, the return of skipper Katie Chapman who is effectively a star new signing? "It's good to have Katie back after she missed last season when having a baby, that will really strengthen the squad!"

"We've still got most of the squad from last season, so we should be just as strong this year and we should do well."
