Leeds United's reserve team were crowned League Champions for the first time in their history as they beat current holders Everton to win the Premier League Reserve Mids/North Division One title. Leeds still have three League games to play but now cannot be caught by their nearest rivals, Sunderland and Liverpool, after Sunday's 3-1 win at Everton. Manager Martin Foggarty is in his first season managing at reserve level and, having previously managed the under 10 girls team within the club, has done a great job all season. What he might have lacked in experience he has made up for in his enthusiasm towards the game. Martin, who this week celebrates his 40th birthday, is delighted with the team's performances all season. He said: " I am really thrilled for all the players, they have worked hard all season and thoroughly deserve it. We didn't play in the first half yesterday, missing lots of chances and were trailing 1-0 at half time, but we came back well to win the game and by doing that the Championship as well." The team have only been beaten once in the league, and with most of the team aged under 20, the future looks bright. Young striker Sarah Dobby has had a great season, averaging a goal a game. Injuries have taken its toll on the team and if Louise Stringer had kept free from injury she might well have been knocking on the first team door. Experienced captain Lisa Woodhead has scored some important goals from midfield and her past first team experience has been vital at times. Youngsters Stacey Emmonds and Emma Benson - playing open age football for the first time - haven't looked out of place all season and the young defensive back four of Gemma Storr, Jade Broadhurst, Nicki Wilde and Sara Hobson have been impressive all of the campaign. Every player has played a big part at different times of the season and must take credit for their determination and will to win. The reserves still have one more trophy to compete for, as they are representing Leeds United in the West Riding County Cup and are through to the semi finals due to be played in early March when they will play Westend Ladies.
