Womens Football
Under 19 qualifiers released
 Women's Football News 2 Mar 2004

The England Women's teams will all be in action over the next few months in various competitions. Hope Powell’s Seniors had been due to face Italy away on Wednesday March 17th, but this match has now been called off due to Italy's acceptance of a late invitation to participate in the international friendly tournament, The Algarve Cup. The FA is still looking for alternative opposition for matches before the end of the season.

England Under-19s have a friendly international against Republic of Ireland scheduled for Friday March 19th. Tickets are now on sale, priced at £1 for adults and concessions, for the international, in partnership with Nationwide. The match will take place at Gravesend & Northfleet FC at 2.00pm. Call the ticket hotline on 01474 533796 for more details and for club/school bookings.

The Republic of Ireland match will be a warm-up for next month's UEFA U19 European Championship second qualifying stage, which will be held in France. After coming through their first stage in October, England face a tough group against reigning champions France, Netherlands and Belgium in order to progress to July’s Finals in Finland. England have a proud recent history in the competition, reaching the semi-finals for the past two seasons and the same result would see them qualify for the second FIFA U19 World Championship, being held in Thailand in November. England will kick-off their qualification bid in France on April 26th against Netherlands, two days later they will meet hosts France and on April 30th will play Belgium. The venues are to be confirmed. Qualification will go to the group winner and the three best runners-up from the four qualifying groups, meeting automatic qualifiers Finland in the eight-team Finals.

England Under-17 will follow on from last month's training camp in Preston to once again participate in the Easter tournament alongside Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Scotland, Wales and a USA representative side. The annual tournament will take place between Monday April 12th - Saturday April 17th in Castlebar, County Mayo, Republic of Ireland. England will be drawn into either Group A or B with two other teams and will play a third game based on their finish place within that group. The draw for this tournament is due to be made shortly
