Danielle eyes first Charlton trophy
 Women's Football News 28 Mar 2004

Danielle Murphy is hoping that Charlton Athletic will pick up their first trophy in what has been an excellent season to date when they take on Fulham at Barnet this Sunday. The England full back has tasted success in both domestic Cup competitions with her former club Millwall Lionesses and, after four years in the USA and a year off from playing, she can't wait to play in another Final.

"I'm very excited about the game, in fact the whole team are," Danielle told Women's Soccer Scene. "This is a great opportunity for our first trophy under Charlton's name.

"I knew I'd signed for a good team when I joined Charlton during the summer, but I didn't realise that we would do this well! Everything has come together, we've got a good set up, and more togetherness on the pitch which means that we've been able to win games that we have lost in the past.

"It's been great - everyone has been supportive of each other and whoever has come into the side has done a good job."

Charlton go into the match as National Division leaders and have a good record against Fulham in the last two seasons, with the six meetings produced two wins each and two draws. The last two games have gone the way of the Addicks - they are the only domestic side to have beaten Fulham since May 2001 - but Danielle revealed that another of those six games is uppermost in the players' minds, last season's F.A.Women's Cup Final. "It's a great chance to make up for last year's defeat in the F.A.Cup. Everyone's more determined after what happened last time."

Manager Keith Boanas is very popular amongst the Charlton players and Danielle is no exception. "He's always there for you and wants the best for the girls. He gives you confidence to go with ability and you don't want to let him down. It's nice that that starts from the top."

Top of the league and with another Cup Final coming up in May, the Addicks are in with a great chance of winning the 'treble'. However Danielle, like her team mates, is not looking at anything beyond this week's game. "The treble is not mentioned at all! The main aim is to focus on Sunday, we'll think about the other games after that."
