 Ann Marie Heatherson was completely stunned after winning the Young Player of the Year award at the National Women's Football Awards. The Charlton Athletic striker has had a rapid rise to prominence from the reserves to a place in the full England squad and playing in two major cup finals."It's a big surprise, I only came for the food really!" Ann Marie told Women's Soccer Scene after the presentation. "To get an award was overwhelming. "I had a target this year to try and get into the FA Cup squad after not making it for last year's final. I've had the help of Keith (Boanas) and the Charlton academy and I eventually got there." The award did come as some consolation for the 20-year-old after Charlton's defeat in the F.A.Women's Cup Final to Arsenal. "It's put a smile back on my face! Hopefully we can still win the league this week and get into Europe next year." Ann Marie is following in the footsteps of some prestigious names who have been previous winners of the award and is the third winner in a row in the Charlton squad, after Fara Williams and Eniola Aluko, but it was still yet to sink in. "To be honest, I'm a bit star struck today! I turn up and see ex-players like Marieanne Spacey and England internationals and realise it's a big achievement to be here, and to get an award as well is even better." So is the next target to win a full England cap? "Hopefully - I was hoping to get a cap when I was picked but I wasn't really targeting an England place this year, it was just totally concentrated on club level. But to get called up twice, what more can you ask?"
