Women's Soccer Scene
We can go all the way - Michelle
 Women's Football News 26 Sep 2004

Michelle Evans has enjoyed a tremendous start to the football season with her new club Everton and the 17-year-old will be looking to further advance her growing reputation on the international stage.

England under-19s begin another season of qualification for next summer's UEFA Championships with home advantage in their opening group phase next week. England take on Romania, Bulgaria and Wales with all of the matches being played in Yorkshire.

Michelle is relishing the chance to help England try and qualify for the next phase but one match, in particular, will be very important to her. "The match with Wales will be a bit special for me as I live in Wales!" she told Women's Soccer Scene. "I am English but I live just over the border and I am looking forward to that one.

"I think it will be a good group, and a great opportunity for all to come and watch. We played Romania in a qualifying group last year and beat them 5-1. They're not a bad side but I think we will beat them. Bulgaria will be new opposition to me as I have never played against them."

Michelle joined Everton from Tranmere Rovers during the summer and has made a big impact on the National Division with four goals to her name already and is one of the rising young stars of the women's game. "I feel in great form and have got more confidence, playing with better players and getting better coaching," she admits. "I'm now playing on the left side up front whereas before I have played on left of midfield, which suits me as I prefer attacking to defending!

Joining Everton has meant linking up with manager Mo Marley, who is also in charge of the England under-19s and is described by Michelle as 'a brilliant coach.' "I'm not too surprised that we are doing so well as there is a good atmosphere at the club, everyone works for each other. I do feel we can win a trophy this season, we've a good team with good players."

Everton's most recent victory came in their local derby match against Liverpool. Michelle scored both goals in the 2-1 win and smiled: "I was well up for that game and I really enjoyed it! I am an Everton fan so it was a bit special for me."

So does Michelle have a message for anyone considering watching the international matches next week? "People should come and try it as it should be a good experience, and a very high standard. Maybe they can see a winning England team as well!

"We can go all the way this year if we can concentrate and get things right. We've bonded well together and are a settled team which knows how each other can play."
