 Reading Girls midfielder Lucy Thomson recently brought some prestige to women's football whilst taking part in another sport. The 17-year-old from Slough is also a talented kick boxer and has just become the Under-18 British Kick Boxing Champion, and also finished third in the open age Women's category.Having started Tae Kwon Do at the age of six, Lucy switched to Kick Boxing at the age of 13, training with the Fu Jau Club. She made an immediate impact on the sport and won the British Championship in her first year and has held the title ever since. Lucy has also done well in the World Championships where she came third in 2003 in Ireland, but a year later in Switzerland she was disqualified only 12 seconds into her very first fight as she unfortunately broke her opponent's nose! Lucy is off to Canada in November 2005 for this year's World Championship Finals, and is seriously hoping for a gold medal. Meanwhile Lucy started at Reading Football Club's Centre of Excellence at the age of 14, having previously played for Denham United. She continued with Reading Colts through to the under-16 and from there, she joined Reading Girls F.C. ladies team. Reading Girls are having a very good season as they currently lead the Division One table in the Southern Region League, locked in a battle for promotion with Thatcham Town and Oxford City Res. They have also reached the Final of the Berks & Bucks F.A. Cup and will meet local rivals Reading Royals. Lucy's measure of commitment is that she trains three times a week for her kick boxing and manages to fit in her football training whilst still studying at college. Well done Lucy!
