Portugal 0England 4 (Stoney 10, Yankey 30,90, Barr 77) England's goal-laden spell continued as they scored four times for the third match in succession and stretched their winning run to five games in a row as they defeated hosts Portugal 4-0 in their second match in the Algarve Cup. After fielding a younger and less experienced side against Northern Ireland, Hope Powell reverted to a more familiar looking line up with ten of the starting players against Italy last month, only Casey Stoney replacing Faye White with Mary Phillip taking the captain's armband. It took ten minutes for England to open the scoring, Amanda Barr heading a corner back across goal for Stoney to drive home her first international goal. On the half hour, the lead was doubled as Barr released Rachel Yankey on goal and the Birmingham City winger, who was winning her 49th cap, rounded the goalkeeper before rolling the ball into the empty net. Barr was having a fine game up front and she scored for the third international in a row from a cross by substitute Karen Carney, and she was involved once more in England's fourth goal in injury time. Latching onto Carney's pass, Barr made her way into the area where her cross was met by a diving header from Yankey for her second goal. England next meet Mexico on Sunday for a group decider between the two teams who have won both of their opening matches.
