 Wolverhampton Wanderers under-12 undertook a tour of Holland over the Easter holidays and impressed their Dutch hosts with victories in both of their matches. Wolves opened their tour against local side SteDoCo and produced a fine display of football which left the Dutch bewildered and stunned, running out 11-0 winner. SteDoCo is a regional team made up with the best players from Rotterdam, Tiel, Utrecht and Breda but Wolves were quickly in front with a goal from Chloe Lewis. In front of representatives from the Dutch FA, Wolves added five more before half time, and five afterwards. Chloe Lewis, Kate Marshall and Aoife Kelly each scored twice, with one each for Andrea Whetton, Hannah Jones, Michelle Fatcher, Kate Nardone and goalkeeper Loz Turner who netted a penalty. The next opponents were the Holland under-13 girls team, in front of a crowd in excess of 250 at Pappendrecht. Against international opposition, Wolves held their own until taking the lead two minutes before half time when, after a good team move, Andrea Whetton crossed for Kate Marshall to fire home. Wolves weathered the early storm at the start of the second half but the Dutch equalised against the run of play midway through the half with an unstoppable shot from a free kick. However, Wolves did not let their heads drop and showed great desire to win and their efforts were rewarded five minutes from time as Chelsea Beardsmore won the ball in midfield and Jade Robinson set up Michelle Fatcher to curl a shot into the far corner of the net to restore their lead. Holland threw everything forward to try and salvage a draw but the Wolves defence, which has been watertight all season, stayed strong to help give their team a memorable 2-1 victory. Wolves manager John Fones told Women's Soccer Scene: "We took the girls to Holland to say thank you for a wonderful effort so far this season. Just before the kick off (of the first match) myself and Ian Fatcher (joint manager) were approached by two gentleman in Dutch national attire. They told us they were in charge of the Under-13 South Holland select side, selected from four out of six Dutch districts, and they were to play us the following day in their stadium. "The following day, the Dutch coach Rob Fluijt wished us well and we returned the pleasantries. The game itself was not only a credit to the girls but to football worldwide - two contrasting styles of play and culture. "Both teams produced some fantastic football and if you were lucky enough to be one of the 250 who witnessed it you would not believe that it was a small club from Wolverhampton taking on the best from Holland from a year above. "To sum it all up, every one of the parents was speechless on the hour-plus journey back to our camp, but the girls didn't realise the magnitude of what they had just achieved."
