 Ellen White could not hide her delight after scoring both goals for England under-17s as they defeated their Switzerland counterparts 2-1 in their friendly at Woking.The Chelsea striker showed her joy by running to the England bench after netting a late winner. "I was ecstatic, as you could see in my celebration," Ellen told Women's Soccer Scene after the game. "I was just running around, I was so pleased to score two goals - it was amazing." The goal was all the more sweeter as Ellen had gone close on a couple of occasions beforehand. "It was a relief," she admitted. "I was a bit heartbroken when I missed the one-on-one just before, but definitely pleased when I scored the second goal." Ellen also felt that the result was just reward for the team's performance. "It was definitely a well deserved win," she said. "It was a physical game but we matched them very well and I was pleased with the team effort. "There's a lot of competition (in the squad) as there are so many rising youngsters in women's football now. You have got to give everything when you are at the training camps, to prove to the England staff that you should be selected." Sunderland goalkeeper Helen Alderson also starred in the victory with a number of good saves but she remained modest about her display. "That's what I'm there for really, every save counts," she said. "I'm just pleased overall with my performance - it's not only the outstanding saves you make but it's the basic stuff as well that is important." Helen has enjoyed a rapid rise in the last few months, holding down a regular place in her team as well as catching the eye of the England selectors. "I moved into the Sunderland first team this season and I think that has helped with my England chances," she admits. "I'm just concentrating on my football and trying to make myself better all the time. "We are a really well organised team (at Sunderland) who work for each other, everyone keeps each other's heads up and we pull together, and that has been a great help for me." There will be plenty more action for the England under-17s this season and Helen is aware that competition for places in the squad is plenty, saying:" There is a training camp in February and a tournament at Easter. We'll all be playing for our places again at the camp, as no-one's place in the squad is secure."
