 Gloucester City take their first step into the First Round Proper of the F.A.Women's Cup this Sunday, and for two of their longer serving players, it will represent one of the biggest matches they have played in.As well as being loyal servants to their club, Helen Wood and Yvette Kemp have excellent goalscoring records and have found the net over 300 times between themselves. Gloucester play at home to Newquay, of the South West Combination, and both players are looking forward to the challenge. "We've beaten Newquay before, so hopefully we can do it again," says Helen. "There is no pressure on us, we are the underdogs and it is on our home ground so we will take it as it comes." "I know Newquay quite well - they've got a lot of quality players including my friend Candy Hopson, so it will be a good test for us," adds Yvette. "They are one of the best teams in the league above, we have beaten them before but this is a totally different team from a few years ago. If we can get a result against them, it will be amazing." Gloucester reached this stage with a 4-0 victory over Bath City in the previous round. "Bath are a strong side and it took us a long time to break them down," admits Helen, "but we kept going and got ourselves a great win. "Our defence played really well and were a key part of it," says Yvette. "Especially Kerys Portbury who was our player of the game." Helen passed the 200 goal mark for Gloucester last season and is back in form again this time around. In the Cup, she scored in the Preliminary Round win over Yeovil Town before a five-goal haul against Launceston and two more against Bath, but she takes a modest view of things. "It's not all down to me," she insists. "You have got to give credit to those around you - if it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be scoring those goals." Yvette has also scored over 100 goals despite playing as a winger and adds: "It's a figure I'm really proud of." Gloucester are a well set up club from youth level and Yvette, originally one of the youth products, is fully aware of the service they are providing. "Our youth set up is brilliant," she smiles. "We have good players from under-10 through to under-16 and they are coming through regularly, we wouldn't be where we are today without them." But how much would a long Cup run mean to a club like Gloucester City? "The money helps us a lot, so the more we win the better really," laughs Helen, whilst Yvette says: "This is the furthest we have ever been and it's a great experience to play against the better teams, a benefit to all of the club."
