Lincoln take slender advantage
 Women's Football News 14 Apr 2008

Lincoln City will go into the final match of the season with a solitary goal advantage in the Northern Division title race after they defeated Aston Villa 4-0.

Jodie Snelson netted two early goals for the Lady Imps and they struck again in the final ten minutes, Stacey Aisthorpe finding the net before Snelson completed her hat-trick in injury time with a precious goal which takes them to the top of the table ahead of next Sunday's 'shootout' for the title, when Lincoln travel to Sunderland whilst Nottingham Forest take on Sheffield Wednesday.

Sunderland meanwhile ran out 2-0 winners over mid-table Manchester City. Abby Holmes
opened the scoring after twelve minutes, with Natalie Gutteridge adding the second early in the second half.

Preston North End held on to fourth place, thanks to a 3-1 victory over Tranmere Rovers. Sue Kenwright gave Tranmere a first half lead before Preston hit back after the break, securing the points with goals from Sarah McCrea, Alison Taberner and Mel Martin.

Stockport County's fight against relegation has ended in bitter disappointment after they crashed 7-0 at home to Newcastle Utd. Stacy Crooks put Newcastle in front after eleven minutes before Melanie Reay kept up her stunning end of season form. The Newcastle assistant manager, who recently scored five times against Crewe Alexandra, netted all of the other six goals - three in each half, to condemn Stockport to the drop.
