Leyton Orient FC opened the doors to its Girls' Centre of Excellence recently as grass roots coaches took advantage of a ground-breaking partnership aiming to raise the bar of quality amongst female footballers in Essex's London Boroughs and beyond. With The Football Association setting itself goals to concentrate on creating better players as part of its new four-year strategy, the Essex County FA kicked things off as an event held in partnership with Orient's Girls' Centre of Excellence and the London FA got underway. Grass roots clubs and their coaches were invited to attend an evening at the S.C.O.R.E. complex in Leyton, which included an introduction to the F.A. Girls' Centre of Excellence Programme by Centre Director, Mike Morris, as well as a practical demonstration led by 'A' licensed Under-16s Coach, Tracey Kevins. The aim of the evening was to provide grass roots coaches with an insight into how Centres of Excellence operate as well as giving an introduction into the F.A.'s Female Player Pathway. Tracey, who also works with the England Under-19s team, led a practical demonstration using the Centre's Under-16s which proved to be a highlight for the fifteen coaches in attendance. Sharon Brownlie, ECFA Girls' & Women's Football Development Officer for Essex' five London Boroughs, commented: "I'm delighted with the attendance at this event and Mike and Tracey did a great job in painting a picture as to what it's like to be part of a Girls' Centre of Excellence. I hope this is just the beginning and that we can continue to build a positive relationship between clubs and centres which will help us produce better female players for the future."
