Filton College's superior fitness told as they scored seven times in a devastating last 20 minutes to run home 8-0 winners against a valiant Forest Green side in the Gloucestershire FA Women's Cup Final.Although Forest Green made a lively start, Filton opened the scoring with their first attack of the game. After winning a free kick near the corner flag, Dani Ackerman's kick resulted in a goalmouth scramble and Grace McCatty slid in to bundle the ball into the net. A superb ball from McCatty released Millie Brain in space on the right, her low cross was hooked goalwards at full stretch by Nicky Watts but her looping shot was cleared off the line by Natalie Matthews. Watts then shot over from Alex Windell's crossfield pass as Filton continued to build on their good spell. Amber Coates forced a save from Claire Greatbanks with an angled shot and Abbie Britton passed up a good opportunity as she broke through and put her shot wide. Forest Green were finding it difficult to cope with the pace of Watts and the striker hit the post and the bar in successive minutes. Greatbanks made a point blank save from Becki Tweed and Watts had a goal disallowed for offside as Forest Green grimly held on to the one-goal margin at half time. Filton picked up the pace once again at the start of the second half and Watts once more went close with a shot past the far post from Coates' pass. Emma Plewa, on as a half time substitute, made a powerful run down the left and her low cross just evaded Watts in front of goal. As the game reached the hour mark, Forest Green created their best chance of the game as Jodie Hennessey clipped a neat pass into the path of Lisa Mansell whose drive was tipped past the post by Sally-Anne Thompson. The resulting corner was met by Charlotte King whose header was cleared off the line by Windell. Forest Green had battled gamely to remain in the game, none moreso than Holbrook and Rosie Bidder who worked tirelessly, but their resistance was broken with twenty minutes remaining when Brain's cross from the right was stabbed home by Coates for the second goal. Brain was again the creator two minutes later, this time her corner found an unmarked Britton who volleyed home from six yards. Filton were then awarded a penalty as Holbrook was somewhat harshly penalised for a challenge on Coates, Hollie Loud clinically slotted home the spot kick for the fourth goal. Forest Green were now looking desperately tired and the speedy Plewa was causing havoc with her runs down the left. Brain looked to have added another goal but was denied by an excellent save from Greatbanks, who clawed her lob around the post for a corner. Plewa scored the goal of the game, finishing off a 30-yard run by firing past Greatbanks from the edge of the area and Watts finally got herself on the scoresheet after she was put through by McCatty's pass. Watts then added a second, tapping home the rebound after Greatbanks had saved Plewa's initial effort and the scoring was completed by Plewa with another clinical finish after bursting through.
