Panthers in the pink
 Women's Football News 19 May 2008

Panthers produced a clinical display of finishing to capture the Sue Sharples Memorial Trophy for the first time.

Acton started the game brightly but it was Panthers who took a tenth minute lead as Steph Shaw found space on the edge of the area before coolly slotting the ball past Eilis Kerr for the opening goal.

Despite the early setback, Acton produced their best spell of the game and a good run to the line by Hanna-Lenna Kokkonen almost resulted in a chance. Tresia Lewis, Shannon Jewell and Katharine Mamy each had shots saved by Shannon Ghramm whilst Lisa O'Shea saw a shot charged down. Panthers meanwhile looked sharp on the break and Jodie List twice made good interceptions to deny Mary Fox.

In the second half, Panthers went in search of a second goal with Shaw sending a shot just wide whilst Liz Penny had a shot saved and Marian Kelly cleared off the line from Tara O'Grady. However the breakthrough came as Mary Richards chipped a through ball into the path of Shaw who once again showed great composure to slide the ball past Kerr to double her side's advantage.

Two minutes later and substitute Dona Reyes charged down a Kerr clearance and tucked the ball into the empty net for a killer third goal.

Acton tried hard to score a consolation but could not break down a Panthers defence in which Karen O'Neill gave a faultless display, coming closest as Kokkonen broke into the area before being denied by Ghramm.
