Four in a row for Marta
 Women's Football News 22 Dec 2009

Marta continued her one-woman domination of the FIFA Women's World Player of the Year award by being named as the best female player on the planet for the fourth year in succession.

The Brazilian striker beat off competition from four other top players including England's Kelly Smith, who was amongst the top five for the second year in a row and finished in a highly creditable third place.

The award was voted for by Head Coaches and captains of each country and FIFA has released a list of their individual votes.

England captain Faye White, not allowed to vote for Smith under the rules, gave her nomination to Inka Grings of Germany as did Scotland's Gemma Fay and Ashley Hutton of Northern Ireland. Wales skipper Emma Jones meanwhile voted for Marta.

Hope Powell, Alfie Wylie and Adrian Tucker all plumped for Marta whilst Anna Signeul's vote was in favour of Kelly Smith.
