Billericay reflect on walking football success
Billericay Town Ladies FC capped an incredible journey by reaching the National Finals of the FA Walking Football Cup at St George’s Park in November, marking a significant milestone for a squad who began just three years ago with only six players.
Now established amongst the top six teams in the country, their path to the finals was nothing short of remarkable. After winning Essex’ Finals Day, the team went on to triumph in the Regional Finals, earning the right to compete at the home of England’s national teams.
Facing seasoned opponents such as Bolton Arena, Forest Vets, Plymouth Argyle and Workington St Joseph’s, Billericay demonstrated skill, resilience and team spirit throughout the competition.
Lead Coach, Debbie Leitch reflected on the team’s progress: “It’s been a fantastic journey! From the players who won the county rounds, to those who triumphed in the regionals, ending up at the Finals Day at St George’s was an experience none of us will ever forget. Truly magical.”
Debbie also praised the leadership of captain Cheron, who led by example and earned the ‘Player of the Day’ Awards at both the Regional and National Finals. She continued: “I’d like to say a big thank you to our coach, Eddie, for his continued support. He does a fantastic job.
“I am so proud to be part of this club, and the squad of players. They are a credit to themselves with everything they have achieved. The team spirit across the entire squad really is second to none.”
