Cardiff City win FAW Girls’ Cup

Cardiff City lifted the FAW U16 Girls' Cup following a 3-1 victory over Penrhyn Bay at Park Avenue on Sunday.

The Bluebirds enjoyed the better of the chances early on but had to wait until the 20th minute to take the lead in Aberystwyth.

Madison Lloyd had set them on their way in the semi final win over Caernarfon Town in February and she opened the scoring again with a header at Park Avenue.

Olivia Basham set up the opener and then grabbed her second assist of the day from another corner as she found Imogen Harris, who nodded past the Penrhyn Bay goalkeeper Millie Spencer.

Erin Doran halved the deficit for Penrhyn Bay shortly before the hour mark with a low shot that found the net through a crowded penalty area.

But Cardiff replied nine minutes later to restore their two-goal lead as Basham fired home into the top corner with a stunning strike, which ensured there would be no way back for Penrhyn Bay as the Bluebirds lifted the trophy.
