Cliftonville stun League Champions

Cliftonville Ladies have taken an early advantage in the title race and gone five points clear after winning 3-0 against previously unbeaten Champions Glentoran.

The first half was goalless but three goals in fifteen minutes after the break turned the match firmly in Cliftonville’s favour. Toni-Leigh Finnegan opened the scoring seven minutes after the restart and goals in quick succession from Kirsty McGuinness and Caitlin McGuinness rounded off a stunning victory for the Reds.

Sion Swifts are only two points off second place following their 3-0 success away to Derry City. Naomi McLaughlin put Sion in front from the penalty spot, shortly before half time, and they made the points safe with further goals in the last five minutes from Cora Chambers and Aoibhe O’Neill.

Linfield meanwhile came from a goal behind run out 4-1 winners at Lisburn Ladies. Rachel Kerr gave Lisburn the lead on the quarter hour but the match turned when Keri Halliday equalised for Linfield on the stroke of half time. Carla Devine then put Linfield ahead for the first time, midway through the second half, and they went on to seal the victory late on when both Halliday and Devine completed their doubles within the last five minutes.

Crusaders Strikers also picked up their third win of the season, 4-2 away to Mid Ulster Ladies. The home side twice took the lead in the first half through Sharagh Murphy and Jessica Magee, with Emily Wilson equalising on the first occasion, but the Crues were to take control of matters after half time. Morganne Beggs levelled the scores once again seven minutes after the restart, with Meghan Ingram netting the third on the hour and Jessica Rea wrapping up the win.

The league will now go into a summer break and will restart on 1st August, after the Euro 2022 Finals.
