Celebrating success at SWF’s annual awards

Hibernian stars among those recognised at the 2025 ScottishPower Scottish Women’s Football Awards.

Hibernian’s title win was among those recognised as honours were handed out at a star-studded ScottishPower Scottish Women’s Football Awards ceremony at Hampden Park.

Eilidh Adams was presented with the MG Alba SWPL Player of the Year Award, while team mate Kathleen McGovern was also highly commended for a historic title win for the Hibees after years of Glasgow dominance in the top flight. Their coach, Grant Scott, won ScottishPower SWPL Coach of the Year.

Scott’s assistant coach and Hibs legend Joelle Murray was also recognised with the Spirit of SWF Award for her position as a club stalwart and role model for many years.

Presenting Murray with her award, Scottish Women’s Football CEO Aileen Campbell said: “Scottish Women’s Football is only too aware that there is a generation who had to do much of this out of the spotlight we see today, and as a longstanding champion and role model, Joelle exemplifies the very qualities that makes our game unique: respect, kindness, sportswomanship and humility.”

Hamilton Academical top scorer Josi Giard picked up MG Alba SWPL2 Player of the Year for her part in her team’s emphatic promotion push, while in the Barclays Championship and League One, East Fife veteran Liz Anderson was named coach of the year and skipper Teri Skivington is Championship Player of the Year.

Bonnyrigg Rose defensive midfielder Chelsea Lowe picked up Player of the Year for Barclays Scottish Women’s League One.

Real Madrid star Caroline Weir won International Player of the Year, while the ScottishPower Sustainable Club of the Year is Shetland Women and Girls, for providing opportunities despite the geographic challenges from operating a team in the northernmost islands.

Turriff United 18s were named the Youth Team of the Year for the resilience and solidarity shown by the girls after losing their much loved captain Orla Taylor to Sepsis in January.

Host and broadcaster Jane Dougall said: “The judges stressed that Turriff’s resilience and togetherness to pay tribute to their much loved team mate showed how special football can be, and can be about more than results on the pitch.

“We know winning this award does not heal the wounds of the devastating and traumatic loss, but it does recognise the inspirational qualities shown by her team mates in her honour. Football is a family indeed.”
