Charlton are into their second successive F.A.Women's Cup Final and are still chasing the 'treble' after a hard earned victory over Birmingham City at Solihull in front of 1,234.

The Addicks came closest early on when Carmaine Walker charged down a defensive clearance which bounced just wide, before Birmingham were dealt a blow when striker Katy Ward was carried off with an ankle injury after just 15 minutes.

Fara Williams forced a great save from Laura Watts with a well struck volley and, from the resulting corner, Ann Marie Heatherson crashed a shot against the bar.

As the game moved towards half time, Birmingham took control of matters and pressed for the opening goal. Sally Lacey was just off target with a long range effort and Pauline Cope made a good smothering save from Karen Carney. Lacey once again went close as the Blues finished the first half on top.

Charlton came out strongly after the interval with Walker heading wide from a Danielle Murphy cross and Jo Broadhurst having a shot saved, but Birmingham hit back with Laura Bassett having a free kick deflected over. From the corner, an unmarked Lacey headed over the bar.

The deadlock was broken just before the hour mark. A crossfield ball from Heatherson picked out Walker who raced clear and drove a low shot into the corner to give Charlton the lead.

Amanda Barr, making her return from injury as a substitute, saw a shot deflected wide and also had an effort well saved by Watts as Charlton sought a second goal.

Birmingham tried hard to salvage the game in the dying minutes but could not get through a well drilled Charlton defence and the Addicks saw the game out to book their Final date with Arsenal.
