Cheryl strikes twice in Welsh win
 Women's Football News 17 Mar 2004

Wales 3 Portugal 2

In an epic nerve racking game a full strength Wales squad defeated Portugal 3-2 in their Algarve Cup match, repeating the victory over the Portuguese last October.

Released from F.A.Women's Cup semi final duties, Jayne Ludlow and Michelle Green arrived in Portugal on Monday to complete the squad for the match having missed Sunday's 1-0 defeat by Greece.

Wales' goals came from Katie Daley who netted a 41st minute penalty, before Liverpool striker Cheryl Foster struck twice in the second half. Firstly, she exchanged pass with Helen Jones before scoring and in the 69th minute she headed home an Enna Davies corner.

A much improved Greece defeated Northern Ireland 2-0 in the other group match, key Greek players training and playing in the USA appears to be paying dividends.

A confident looking Wales play Northern Ireland on Thursday (18th), 1.45pm kick off.

Wales: Nicki Davies, Caroline Cooper, Ceryl Jones, Katie Daley, Cheryl Foster, Michelle Green, Helen Jones, Jayne Ludlow, Kala Morgan, Sian Cheedy, Enna Davies. Subs used: Jenna Hopkins, Katie Williams.
