Under-19s ready for Irish challenge
 Women's Football News 19 Mar 2004

The England under-19 side will play a friendly international against Republic of Ireland this Friday at Gravesend and Northfleet F.C., kick off 2pm.

The team will use the game as practice for the Second Group Qualifying Stage next month as England aim to qualify for the UEFA Under-19 Championships, which are being held in Finland in July.

The Qualifying Group will be hosted by current European Champions France and England will also face the Netherlands and Belgium to battle for the one automatic qualifying place or best runner-up spot.

England have reached the semi finals of the past two annual European Finals and the same finish this season would see the Lionesses qualify for the second FIFA Under-19 World Championship, which will be held in Thailand in November.

Arsenal winger Emma Thomas withdrew from the original squad through injury and has been replaced by Sarah Smith, whilst Hayley Kemp and Anita Asante are also out with Laura Husselbee and Sam Jones coming in. Bristol Rovers defender Louise Hutton has been added to the squad after impressing against Arsenal in their F.A.Women's Cup semi final.

Entry to Friday's game costs £1 for all.

England under-19 squad: Carly Telford (Sunderland), Nicola Hobbs (Lincoln City), Julie Lowe (Sunderland), Beth Bailey (Birmingham City), Laura Husselbee (Birmingham City), Darel Poole (Watford), Katie Holtham (Lincoln City), Rachel Axon (AFC Wimbledon), Sam Jones (Chelsea), Louise Hutton (Bristol Rovers), Michelle Hickmott (Fulham), Sarah Smith (Sheffield Wednesday), Bonnie Horwood (Colchester Utd), Dani Bird (Fulham), Nicole Emmanuel (Leeds Utd), Jodie Taylor (Tranmere Rovers), Michelle Evans (Tranmere Rovers), Karen Carney (Birmingham City), Eniola Aluko (Charlton Athletic).
