Keith Boanas offered no excuses after Charlton Athletic were beaten 4-0 by Arsenal in the F.A.Women's Community Shield. "It's far from an ideal start and I am very angry at the moment," he admitted. "I was let down by a lot of the players tonight."We needed another nine Katie Chapmans out there as she was outstanding and must have run about seven miles tonight. But there was a lack of passion and desire and we weren't sharp enough. We've got to compete better than that. "Frustration and fatigue set in but the players did try hard in the second half. Maria Bertelli did well alongside Katie Chapman and I was forced into three substitutions at half time as Pauline Cope was injured. That prevented me from bringing on Carmaine Walker as intended and that might have livened us up. "That said, I was disappointed with the decision for the penalty and there was a handball in the build up before the second goal but I am not blaming the referee." Keith also praised Arsenal, saying: "Take nothing away from them, they looked sharp and I was impressed by them. They have set a benchmark tonight, and with Fleeting and Smith to come back in, they'll be formidable. "But somebody has got to compete with them, and I still think we can do it." | |||||||||||||||||
