Girls played to my strengths - Jayne - 5 Aug 2005 - Women's Football NewsJayne Ludlow produced a telling performance in an unfamiliar position to help Arsenal to a convincing 4-0 victory in the F.A.Women's Community Shield at Milton Keynes.

The Welsh international midfielder was played up front in the absence of Kelly Smith and Julie Fleeting, and the retirement of Angela Banks, and responded with two of the goals including a stunning volley in the dying minutes.

"I shut my eyes," she laughed when referring to that strike. "We were short of strikers so I filled in. I'm enjoying my football and have had a good pre-season, and the girls were playing to my strengths tonight.

"I thought that centre forwards didn't work too hard but now I know they do!" she added.

Jayne is also determined that Arsenal can build on the result in the season ahead, adding: "Hopefully it's a pointer to the season, we've got a good squad and it looks good for the future."
