After the disappointment of relegation at the end of last season, Liverpool have started their quest for an immediate return to the top flight with victories in both of their opening matches in the Northern Division. The Reds followed up their opening day win over Curzon Ashton with a 2-0 victory over last season's runners-up Wolverhampton Wanderers and Jade Thomas has figured prominently in both matches. The Welsh international added to her double against Curzon by scoring the clinching goal in the dying minutes against Wolves. "I'm doing well, better than last season," Jade told Women's Soccer Scene. "I only scored one last year and now I've got three goals in two games," she smiles. "I'm playing at left wing back now but I do push on from there and hopefully I can score a few more." Jade is delighted with the team's start to the season and is optimistic about their chances of going back up again. "It's been a good start, the team has done well and I think we can win the league," she says. "The new manager (Keith Cliffe) has come in and done well with the set up, and hopefully we can carry on." When asked about other teams who are likely to be challenging, Jade nominates three possible rivals. "I think that Blackburn, Newcastle United and Wolves will be up there," she replies. "Today was a really good result for us." Liverpool were relegated after they had completed their fixtures at the end of last season, but Jade feels that the experience of playing against the top teams will be beneficial to her team. "It's a good standard up in the Premiership - it's much harder and faster," she says. "But, with the team we have got, if we get there I am sure we'll do well next time." | |||||||||||||||||
