Bristol City captain Kirsty Richardson says her side are ready for their vital play-off first leg with National Division side Sunderland."The girls are really up for this game," Kirsty told Women's Soccer Scene. "Sunderland are a Premiership side and they will be desperate to hang on to their status but we shall give all we can give in the two matches." City will be hoping to take a lead into the return match in the North East next Sunday and Kirsty hopes that a win in the first leg could set them up. "A lead is important for confidence," she says. "If we can go there with a win, it will do us the world of good. We play with a lot of confidence anyway but a little boost would help." Last Sunday, City booked their play-off place with a 3-1 win against Southampton Saints and Kirsty admits that they needed to battle for the points: "Southampton gave us a hard time, they're quite a physical side and they work hard together but once we got our game going in the second half and got the second goal, we controlled it a little bit more. We had a couple of scares but dominated the game." So how crucial is it that City regain their top flight status? "This is definitely an important season for us," Kirsty replies. "Being relegated last year was devastating for the club as we've always been used to being a top side and challenging for things. Last season we didn't get to do that, but we want to go straight back up and prove we should be a Premiership side, season after season. We want this really badly." | |||||||||||||||||
