On a wet South Warwickshire Sunday afternoon, players, supporters, family and friends turned out to remember and pay tribute to a former team-mate, Ellie Farnsworth of Coventry Copsewood who died late last year.
So far over £1,250 has been raised for Mind the Mental Heath Charity in Ellie's memory after holding a charity football match in her honour at Allard Way in Coventry. Players from Ellie's two former clubs - Coventry Copsewood and Racing Club Warwick (formerly Racing Club Hibernian) were pooled together and randomly selected out of a hat to decide the two teams for the match at Copsewood's Allard Way headquarters. Eleanor Farnsworth died in November 2006, aged 28.
The 'Oranges' beat the 'Whites' 7-3 on the day and the Charity match, which has been hailed a success, raised over £350 to help push the appeal to well over the £1,000 mark. Family and friends of Ellie have also been busy collecting donations in her memory which have been put towards the current appeal, organized by Ellie's best friend Gemma Massie who hopes to raise £2,000 for Mind the Mental Health charity organization.
