Watford sign seven from Charlton
 Women's Football News 17 Aug 2007

Watford have announced the signing of seven ex-Charlton players as the club embarks upon its inaugural season in the National Division.

Danielle Murphy, Karen Hills, Ashlee Hincks, Haz Parnell, Ebony Cabey-Gooden, Laura Husselbee and Lauren Phillips have all joined the newly promoted side.

Manager Sian Williams said: "I am very pleased to have these players in the squad, the experience of Karen Hills and Danielle Murphy in particular will be a huge boost to a talented but young squad. They have been solid performers at the top level for a long time and will be a calming influence in periods of pressure. They have fitted in well with the other players both on the field and the training ground, and will a real asset to the club.

"I have been a fan of Ashlee's since I saw her play as a 16-year-old at Charlton and am very excited at the prospect of her continuing to grow as a player alongside the likes of Ellen Maggs and Helen Lander. I think their styles of play will suit each other very well.

"Laura Husselbee I have known for years, she has been unlucky with injuries in that period. She is however a very composed and elegant "footballing" centre back. Laura is already showing her ability and she has only been in full training for a short time.

"The two young attacking players, Haz Parnell and Lauren Phillips, I have been very pleasantly surprised by. They have different talents but have both been influential in pre-season games. Haz has a lot of pace, composure in front of goal and has also laid on several top class defence splitting passes already. Lauren is more of a link player; she works extremely hard and has good movement for a young player.

"Matt Ward (our GK coach) has already spoken about Ebony and her talent but I would like to re-iterate his praise for her commitment, attitude and ability."

Watford hope to be able to announce the signing of another top young prospect from Charlton in the coming days.
