Three first half goals saw Liverpool end Bristol Academy's unbeaten record with a surprise 3-2 victory.
The Reds raced into a three-goal lead on the half hour, scoring all of their goals in a 12-minute period, starting when Jade Thomas put them in front before Jo Traynor and Gill Hart quickly added further goals. On the first day of the season, Liverpool clawed back a three-goal deficit against Bristol Academy and the reverse seemed possible as Kerry Bartlett and Stef Curtis pulled goals back for Academy, but Liverpool held on for their second win in successive matches.
Blackburn Rovers are now in second place after running out 4-1 winners over Birmingham City. Heather Scheuber did give the Blues a 20th minute lead but Katie Anderton struck twice - taking the prolific markswoman's tally for the season so far to 10 - and Lynda Shepherd added a third before half time. Levi Penny wrapped up the points for the Lancashire side with the final goal, six minutes from time.
