Wales face an anxious wait to see whether they will make it through to the Second Qualifying Round of the UEFA Under-17 Championship after finishing in second place in their First Phase group.
Only the ten group winners are guaranteed a place in the Second Round but the six runners-up teams with the best record are set to join them, and the Welsh side will have to wait until all of the other groups are completed before knowing their fate.
Wales did lead the group after the opening matches after beating Cyprus 10-0 in Frauenfeld. Yasmin Leung was on target four times and she was joined on the scoresheet by Lyndsey Davies, Emily Brown, Cori Williams, Laura May Walkley, Jasmine Dutton and Sharla Passiarello.
However a 2-2 draw against Lithuania in their second match meant that Wales needed to beat group hosts Switzerland in their final match in Weinfelden.
Things could not have got off to a worse start as Switzerland scored twice in the opening eight minutes through an own goal and Annina Spahr, but Wales fought back valiantly. Sophie Ingle pulled one back and Lyndsey Davies levelled the match on the hour mark but they were unable to force a winning goal and had to settle for second place.
England, Scotland and Northern Ireland are all set to play their qualifying groups over the next two weeks.
