Scotland under-17 are through to the Second Qualifying Round of the UEFA Under-17 Championships after they swept to the top of their group with three impressive victories.
They needed a draw in their final match against Hungary in order to clinch top spot and they did so with a 3-1 win. After conceding their first goal in the tournament in the 24th minute, Scotland fought back with goals from Sarah Crilly, Lisa Evans and Angela Waite.
Scotland Under-17 Coach Tony Gervaise told www.scottishfa.co.uk after the match: "Hungary won both their first matches so they were eager to win the match…however it just came down to which team wanted it more and it was Scotland."
Scotland's opening group match was against Northern Ireland and they got off to the perfect start with a seventh minute goal from Emma Mitchell. Sarah Crilly scored either side of half time and they went on to seal the win with further goals from Lauren McMurchie, Lisa Evans and Angela Waite.
In the next match, the Scots put themselves in a very strong position with a 4-0 victory over Croatia. Sarah Crilly maintained her good form by netting two more goals and further strikes in the second half came from Emma Mitchell and Angela Waite. However Northern Ireland's challenge came to an end on the same day as they were beaten 2-0 by Hungary.
Scotland are one of the 16 teams who will participate in the Second Qualifying Round in April, where they will compete for the chance to play in the inaugural Finals the following month.
