However a minute later, Birmingham's two-goal advantage was restored as Chelsea Weston scored with a powerfully struck free kick. In her attempts to keep the ball out, Sunderland goalkeeper Helen Alderson suffered two dislocated fingers and was taken to hospital following a lengthy delay. Steph O'Brien took over between the posts but she was unable to prevent the Blues sealing a 4-1 victory through a goal from captain Laura Bassett.
