Seven up for rampant Forest
 Women's Football News 11 Feb 2008

Seven up for rampant Forest - 11 Feb 2008 - Women's Football NewsNottingham Forest are four points clear at the top of the Northern Division once again following a stunning 7-0 victory over Rotherham Utd.

Rotherham had gone into the match with three wins in their last four matches but found themselves three down inside the opening twenty minutes, Natalie Clarke scoring twice and Andi Bell the other inside a four minute period. Beth Bailey extended Forest's lead early in the second half with Clarke completing her hat-trick on 63 minutes. Lauren Cresswell rounded off a good day for Forest by adding two late goals.

Sheffield Wednesday continue to climb the table and are now in fourth place after their 1-1 draw away to Tranmere Rovers. Sarah Manning gave Tranmere the lead on the hour mark and Annette Wale equalised for Wednesday, meaning that Tranmere are now in the bottom two places.

Just three points now cover the bottom six teams in what is becoming a traditional tight battle against relegation from the division. These teams are headed by Aston Villa who battled out a 1-1 draw against Manchester City. Villa took the lead in the first half with a goal from Carly Davies from a corner but after the break, City had more of the play in the second period and drew level in the dying minutes when defender Charlotte Farrell met a cross at the far post and drilled home a low powerful shot.

Newcastle Utd earned themselves a vital 3-0 win away to Preston North End which takes them back out of the relegation zone. The Magpies never looked back after Melanie Reay put them in front from the penalty spot in the fifth minute and Stacy Crooks scored a second midway through the first half. Reay went on to round off the win by completing her double, eight minutes into the second half.

Crewe Alexandra claimed their third victory in a row and are within sight of the safety zone but the 4-0 win means that Stockport County's worrying run continues. Emma Lambourne opened the scoring for Crewe in the fourteenth minute and three goals in the last twenty minutes wrapped up their win, Chloe Jones netting twice and Amanda Goodwin notched the last. Although Crewe are still at the bottom, they are level on points with the two teams immediately above them and one victory away from a mid-table position.
