Brent Hills' England Under-23s registered an impressive opening 3-1 victory against the USA in the Five Nations Tournament in La Manga. Rebecca Angus, of Kolbotn IL, opened her England goalscoring account in her first appearance in the 41st minute. Arsenal's Gemma Davison scored within seconds of coming on for Angus, and Leicester City's Rachel Williams, another second half substitute, wrapped up the win with two minutes remaining. The game saw Watford goalkeeper Marie Hourihan make her Under-23s bow, with her clubmate Emma Thomas starting on the right side of midfield, reward for consistent performances in their club's first season in the National Division. Angus and Dani Bird meanwhile travelled to La Manga with the senior squad in January for a training camp and will be keen to make an impression on Hills, with Hope Powell's side returning to Euro 2009 qualification matters next month. England: Marie Hourihan, Nicole Emmanuel, Michelle Hickmott, Lynda Shepherd, Kylie Davies, Katie Holtham, Emma Thomas (sub Ashlee Hincks 60 mins), Amy Kane (sub Rachel Williams 56mins), Rebecca Angus (sub Gemma Davison 80mins), Dunia Susi, Dani Bird (sub Michelle Evans 81mins).
