Women's Soccer Scene
Corby coin it in for Claire
 Women's Football News 12 May 2008

Before their final game of the season at Occupation Road, Corby S & L had great pleasure in making a cheque presentation to deaf footballer Claire Stancliffe.

Northampton-based Claire, who plays her domestic football for Northants County League side Whitworths, has been selected to represent the GB Deaf Ladies football team at next year's Deaf Olympics in Taiwan and has recently been told that she has also been selected to represent England at this year's World Cup in Greece.

19-year-old Claire has been instrumental in organising and helping to bring the GB Deaf Ladies football team to the Northamptonshire area on two occasions this season, however one big burden on Claire's love of playing football with her deaf friends around the globe on an international stage is the big financial constraints on deaf players like Claire, who have to fund themselves in order to play. Should there be any Organisations or Companies wishing to assist or sponsor Claire in her fund raising efforts for these two fantastic forthcoming international football opportunities, you may contact her at diamondsr4ever_10@hotmail.com.

Another person, who has been instrumental in Claire's on the pitch development is Whitworth manager David Ekins, who explained earlier this season the problems many managers and able bodied footballers face in assisting players like Claire take part in the beautiful game.

Corby S & L captain Laura Gemmill, along with her team mates, is pictured presenting the cheque for £100 raised from forfeits throughout the season to Claire Stancliffe (photo Corby S&L FC).
