Women's Soccer Scene
Premier Clubs sign up for new Summer Tournaments
 Women's Football News 14 May 2008

Everton, Blackburn Rovers, Colchester United, Manchester City and Newcastle United are just some of the names of teams committed to playing in one of the new 11-a-side summer tournaments launched by Team Tours Direct; the Welsh International Super Cup and the Manchester Summer Cup.

The Welsh International Super Cup is one of Europe's most renowned soccer tournaments; football icons such as Steven Gerrard, Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler and Shay Given adorn the all star graduate list from the summer showpiece in Aberystwyth.  The 2007 event was also filmed by Sky TV and Arsenal attended with three of their girls teams.  The event is staged at Blaendolau Playing Fields in Aberystwyth where there are twenty excellent playing surfaces maintained throughout the year by a team of dedicated ground staff. The pitches here are without doubt some of the best in Europe and are used as the venue for the FA Pro-Licence. The Women's Open Age event takes place on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th July and the Girls' event takes place from Monday 21st to Friday 25th July 2008.

The Manchester Summer Cup is a superb pre-season training tournament for teams who wish to play highly competitive games prior to commencing matches in their prospective leagues.  It is an excellent opportunity for managers to test their players and try new formations in the lead up to the start of the season.  Many International Players will participate in the tournament and it is a great occasion to play alongside those who have reached the highest level in the game.  Salford Sports Village, the new home of the Manchester FA is the perfect venue for this exciting event. The Girl's event takes place from Monday 28th July to Friday 1st August followed by the Women's Open age event on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd August 2008.

Joanne Moseley, the newly appointed Senior Women's Event Co-ordinator explained, "Female football is experiencing a very exciting time and we aim to offer teams an excellent competition that results in winning superb trophies and medals in all levels of competition, with prizes including the Cup, Challenge Cup and the Shield."

Former Umbro International Cup Co-ordinator, Joanne, continued, "Team Tours Direct aim to provide a truly high calibre tournament experience with comprehensive medical cover, sports injury clinic, excellent on-site catering facilities, superb action photography and a very good range of accommodation with transfers to the venues."

Dave Plowright, a Level 3 Qualified Referee, takes on the role of the Women's Football Co-ordinator and brings with him his vast experience from running the Mansfield/Reebok Trophy and the Umbro International Cup. Dave said, "This new concept will raise the standard of women's events in the UK through the combination of excellent fixture lists (minimum of four games) and a wide geographical spread of teams. The high level of refereeing and immaculate pitches at top of the range venues will ensure great tournament football."

The superb packages for the events include entry into the football tournaments, self-catering accommodation and shuttle bus transfers from the accommodation to the pitches. Prices start from £79 for the Women's Open Age (2 days of football and 2 nights) and £199 for the Girl's tournaments (5 days of football and 6 nights).
