Captain pledges future to Charlton - 16 May 2008 - Women's Football NewsRelegated Charlton Athletic have been given a huge boost for next season with captain Kimberley Dixson putting pen to paper and pledging her future to the club by signing a new one year contract.

Kim has been at the club since she was 12 years old, progressing from the girls School of Excellence to the girl's Academy and then to the Charlton first team. Within this time she received international honours at various age levels.

Manager Paul Mortimer was pleased with his first capture of the season, and told the Charlton Athletic Community Trust website: "Kim has had a particularly good year; her professionalism and work rate has been outstanding during a disappointing season for the women's team.

"Now with Kim on board hopefully we can make a quick return to the Premier League."

Steve Sutherland, Chairman of the women's team, added: "Everyone involved with women's football at Charlton Athletic are absolutely delighted that a player of the calibre of Kim Dixson has committed herself to the club.

"There is no doubt in my mind, having watched women's football for several years, that Kim has the ability to play at the very highest level in the game.

"However, with women's and girls' football now firmly ensconced under the Charlton Athletic Community Trust, Kim knows that we are building something lasting and very special here for the future and that she has a vital part to play in the development of women's football at Charlton, both on and off the pitch.

"Last season was understandably a struggle for our new, young and very inexperienced team but, led brilliantly by Kim, they stuck to their task admirably.

"The experience gained last season will undoubtedly hold us in good stead for the challenges of the new campaign and I, for one, certainly expect the team to be challenging for an immediate return to the Premier League."
