Leyton caused an upset in the Greater London League Cup Final by coming from behind to beat League Champions Enfield Res 2-1 at Bedfont.Enfield had gone into the match as firm favourites against their Division Two North opponents and went into the lead after three minutes. Tara Hutcherson's pinpoint corner from the left picked out Cally Browne, who rose highest to plant a header into the corner of the net. However the early goal seemed to settle Leyton down and they came close to pulling a goal back as Keeley Jeffery shot over from Lisa Rackham's pass. Hutcherson meanwhile had started impressively for Enfield but she was hampered by an ankle injury picked up after an innocuous challenge. Hannah McIntyre was also narrowly off target with an effort but Leyton were to get back on level terms just after the half hour mark as Rackham found Emily Hazell on the edge of the area where she fired a shot over Joanne Ayre and into the top corner. The pattern of the match continued after the break with Leyton defending strongly and few chances for either side. Rackham forced a save from Ayre and Jeffery shot wide whilst at the other end, despite the hold up play of Arva Roberts, Enfield could not break down a Leyton back four in which Chloe Morgan was outstanding. In the 77th minute, a foul on Jeffery outside the area led to the decisive moment of the match. Rackham's free kick was touched on to the post by Ayre and a scramble ensued before Fran McGowan calmly slotted an inch perfect shot past three defenders and inside the far post to send Leyton ahead for the first time. Ayre made a vital interception to deny the tireless Jeffery a third goal after the excellent Rackham had burst into the area. Enfield then piled on the pressure in the dying minutes with Felicity Roach shooting over from the edge of the area but just could not force an opening as Leyton stood firm and held out for a surprise but deserved victory.
