We're raring to go - John
 Women's Football News 29 Jul 2008

We're raring to go - John - 29 Jul 2008 - Women's Football NewsDoncaster Rovers Belles manager John Buckley has declared that his squad are ready for the new FA Tesco Women's Premier League campaign which starts on August 17th away to last season's runners-up Everton.

Buckley said: "The players are ready and raring to go. They have worked hard in pre-season and everyone is both mentally and physically prepared for the new season.

"At the moment, my whole focus is on getting a positive result against Everton on opening day. This will be a difficult task but with the squad that we have assembled here, I'm convinced that it is possible. We had a very strong finish to last season's campaign, which added to the new signings coming in, has given us good momentum to go in to this campaign in a very positive manner."

The Belles have signed seven new players this summer with two having also left and Buckley said all the new signings have settled in well: "Paul, Scott and I all worked tirelessly this summer in identifying and bringing the right kind of player in to the club to improve the squad. We are very pleased with who we managed to recruit to add to the nucleus of the existing squad and believe we now have more quality, a better balance and are more of an athletic and powerful unit.

"The signing of young England internationals Rachel Williams, Chelsea Weston, Jayne Eadie and Naomi Chadwick are just the type of players we want at the club - young, have desire to be successful along with a very professional attitude. We saw all of these signings as a major coup for the club.

"We also strengthened our attacking options with the signings of Suzanne Davies, Tanya Rich and Sarah Dickens who I am convinced can fill the void left by the departure of Carla Cantrell to Leeds Carnegie.

"This is the strongest squad that we have had in a number of years and we will be pressing for a top four finish as well as challenging in the cup competitions.

"The atmosphere in the dressing room is so close that everyone seems to have bonded very quickly and they are all itching to get going come August 17th. Every team wants to start the new season off with a win, we are no different and will be looking to achieve that on Merseyside."
