Chelsea Girls Centre of Excellence under-16s have returned from Denmark, having captured the prestigious Dana Cup for a second year in succession.
Following group matches against teams from Norway, Denmark and Sweden, the girls topped their group to enter the knockout stages. With 60 teams participating in their category, there was a lot of football to be played but following three more victories, Chelsea faced Wisent of Switzerland in the semi finals.
Kirsty Barton gave Chelsea a 1-0 lead at half time, but early on in the second half the German referee sent off a Chelsea player, leaving the remaining ten to dig deep and grind out a fantastic result. The final, played in the Fortuna Hjorring stadium in front of a large and noisy crowd, saw Chelsea take an early lead through England under-17 striker Becky Jane, but Vollen of Norway equalised before half time. As the sweltering heat took its toll on both teams, the game headed into extra time. Showing great charcter, and with three more goals from Becky Jane, Chelsea ran out 4-1 winners after extra time. Congratulations to all the players and staff involved!
