What better time to do a 5K run than the start of pre-season training, which is exactly what the senior players and coaches of Cardiff City did this year?
25 players and five coaches all took part in the all-women's Race For Life Sponsored by Tesco in Cardiff's Bute Park in aid of Cancer Research UK.
Cardiff captain Charlotte Miller said: "Our first night back preparing for the new season was slightly different this year as we all entered the 5K run. Although it was good fun, there was a serious element to the race as well as we all wanted to record a good time and not be the last home, although that wasn't too difficult with our coaches also in the race!"
Cardiff, who compete in the Tesco sponsored FA Women's Premier League, decided to enter the run not only as part of their training preparations but also to raise money for Cancer Research.
There were plenty of celebrations at the finishing line with all players and coaches finishing the event. The highlight of the night for the girls was striker Kate Roberts winning the overall race, crossing the line in just under 17 minutes, an incredible achievement. All eyes were also on Natasha Harding, Amie Lea and Charlotte Miller all coming in together and doing a 'Klinsmann' style dive over the line which got them huge cheers and recognition in the South Wales Echo.
