Scotland under-19 came from behind to earn a deserved 1-1 draw against Finland at McDiarmid Park. In their first game of the new season, and with a squad featuring a host of new faces at this age group, Scotland started confidently. They enjoyed the bulk of the first half possession, with Christie Murray and Hayley Lauder making some incisive runs early on. Lauder and Kim Borthwick both drew saves from Finland goalkeeper Katja Kankaanpaa with 25 minutes and Tammy Harkin flashed a fierce cross across the face of goal, but the score remained goalless at half time. Finland started the second half with purpose and broke the deadlock within two minutes of the restart when Sanna Porali headed home from a corner. Both teams pressed forward throughout the half, with both goalkeepers called into action, with Cheryl McCulloch firing over the bar under pressure from Kankaanpaa on the hour mark. Captain Christie Murray levelled the score on 83 minutes when she smashed the ball into the roof of the net from the penalty spot. (www.scottishfa.co.uk)
