Wales under-17 have successfully qualified for the Second Qualifying Round of the UEFA Under-17 Championships despite a defeat in their last group match.
They kicked off their group by taking on hosts Romania and made a spectacular start with a 7-0 victory. Rachel Rowe and Sharla Passiarello each netted twice inside the opening half hour and Emily Brown also bagged a double after the break, with an own goal rounding off the scoring.
Next up for Wales was a tougher battle against Croatia but Wales put themselves on the verge of qualification by beating them 1-0. Nia Jones grabbed the only goal of the game with ten minutes remaining.
This left Wales needing to beat Spain in their final match in order to guarantee top spot and qualification but the resulting 2-1 defeat did not affect them too much as they will be one of the six runners-up with the best record against the top three teams in their group. Danielle Broadhurst was on target for Wales who will be in the draw for the Second Phase, which takes place next month.
