Sunderland strengthened their grip at the top of the Northern Division with a 7-0 victory over Tranmere Rovers. Gemma Wilson opened the scoring for the Wearsiders with Sophie Williams, Demi Stokes and Nicola Devine also finding the net before half time. Natalie Gutteridge also got on the scoresheet and Kelly McDougall rounded off the win with two late goals. Melanie Reay bagged five goals as Newcastle Utd moved back into second place with their biggest win of the season to date, 8-1 against Curzon Ashton. Ruth Sutcliffe, Rachel Furness and Stacy Crooks were also on target as Newcastle notched up their seventh win in eight matches. Manchester City got back to winning ways with a 2-1 success at Reading FC Women. Sarah Penney gave them an early lead from the penalty spot and Becky Lee netted a decisive goal after the break, before Natasha Caswell scored a late penalty for the home side. OOH Lincoln's challenge received a setback as they were held to a 1-1 draw by improving Preston North End. Gemma Watson opened the scoring for Preston with Lincoln hitting back to earn themselves a point through Carla Ward.
