England got off to a superb start in the UEFA Under-19 Championships with a 3-0 victory over Sweden in their opening match in Minsk.
Sweden qualified for the Finals without conceding a goal in any of their qualifying matches but it was England who took a 20th minute lead when Jade Moore headed home from a Michelle Hinnigan free kick.
Toni Duggan went close when her shot brought out a good save from Susanne Nilsson but the Everton striker added a second before half time after racing on to a through ball by Kerys Harrop.
Duggan almost struck again early in the second half after being set up by Isobel Christiansen, but she put her shot wide. However England were to round off a great day midway through the half as Hinnigan set up full back Chelsea Weston to fire home a shot off the underside of the bar.
The other match in the group between Iceland and Norway finished goalless and England are next in action on Thursday against Norway, where a victory would guarantee their place in the semi finals.
England under-19: Rebecca Spencer, Chelsea Weston, Gilly Flaherty, Remi Allen (sub Laura Coombs 76mins), Lucy Bronze, Kerys Harrop, Isobel Christiansen, Jordan Nobbs, Toni Duggan (sub Abbie Prosser 79mins), Michelle Hinnigan, Jade Moore (sub Jessica Holbrook 79mins). Subs not used: Ashley Baker, Gemma Bonner, Demi Stokes, Lauren Bruton.
