Ebbsfleet United ran their second annual summer tournament on Sunday, hosted by Kicks Soccer Centre in Strood. The ladies and girls only day was run on the new 3G facility with seven purpose built pitches. The tournament's entries had doubled since last year, with Under-10, Under-12 and Under-14s running in the morning and the ladies' five and seven-a-side competitions in the afternoon. Ebbsfleet were delighted with the improved entry of around 40 teams competing on the day, teams travelled from near and far and included West Ham United, Maidenhead United and Anchorians. The successful day was rounded up with Ebbsfleet winning the five-a-side competition, beating Maidstone Town in a closely fought final after a tough afternoon of matches in the hot July sun. The seven-a-side tournament was played on a league basis with six teams, where West Ham's teams took the winners and runners-up spots. Ebbsfleet's pre-season friendlies begin this week as they prepare for their new season in the South East Combination. They have matches against Chelmsford, Brighton & Hove Albion and Colchester before the league begins on Sunday 16th August. They are still seeking 3/4 new players to help improve their existing squad and regular playing opportunities are available for key positions in the team. For more details, contact team manager Claire Shevlin (07956) 228315 or e-mail ladies@eufc.co.uk. Unfortunately the team has been left without a sponsor for this season and are desperately seeking support as they enter their most important season yet in the third tier of women's football. If you are able to help in any way, please contact the club at ladies@eufc.co.uk.
