This weekend will see a red letter day for Derby County when they make their Premier League bow away to Preston North End. "This will be Derby County's first ever opportunity to compete Premier League level and everyone at the club is eagerly awaiting our first fixture on Sunday away to Preston," says secretary Sheila Rollinson. "Last season in the Midland Combination was very competitive, with lots of ups and downs, and we expect the same thing again this season, with the aim of consolidating our position in the league - a mid-table place at the end of the year would be great. "We have retained the majority of our squad from last season and added Jenni Anslow from Wolves plus Laura Steele and Emma Allen from Loughborough Students. There are also a couple of last season's Under-16s on the verge of breaking into the starting line-up. The only real name missing from the team sheet will be last season's inspirational captain Leanne Beet who has decided to let the younger ones do all the running around at this level! "The backing of Derby County FC has made a huge difference to DC Ladies for, although the club is still run by our own volunteers, the men's club have provided kits and a sponsor (buymobilephones.net) which have allowed us to make significant progress."
