![]() Dannii Bird fired the Blues into a first half lead which was doubled just before the break by Heather Scheuber. Sian Larkin added a third within five minutes of the restart and summer signing Kerry Bartlett rounded off the scoring in injury time. Sunderland's first game back in the top flight ended in victory as they won 2-0 away to Bristol Academy. Nicola Devine gave the Wearsiders a great start as she headed home a fifth minute corner and Natalie Gutteridge added the second, midway through the second half, when she converted an Abby Holmes cross at the far post. A youthful Academy side threatened through the fine form of winger Loren Dykes and were unlucky not to score a late consolation when Molly Clark struck the bar from 25 yards. The other newly promoted side, Millwall Lionesses, also made a winning start as they defeated Nottingham Forest 1-0. The only goal of the game came with four minutes remaining with Carly Eagles scoring from close range. Honours were even as Doncaster Rovers Belles and Blackburn Rovers battled out a 1-1 draw. Rachel Williams sent the Belles into the lead midway through the first half and her goal was cancelled out by an equaliser after the break from Katy Ward on her Blackburn debut.
