Reds fired by Kelly's treble
 Women's Football News 30 Sep 2009

Liverpool regained the leadership of the Northern Division after they ran out 7-2 winners over Derby County.

Kelly Jones bagged a hat-trick for the Reds, Cheryl Foster weighed in with a brace and there was a goal apiece from Katie Brusell and Sophie Jones. Derby replied with goals from Jenni Anslow and Marie Wayne and remain in the bottom two places.

The division's two other unbeaten teams, Aston Villa and Leicester City, met each other and battled out a tight 1-1 draw. Leicester took a fifteenth minute lead when Lauren Impey hit a lovely ball through to Natasha Meade who coolly finished past Nicola Kuch. The game ebbed and flowed, City's Destiney Toussaint hitting the Villa post and Dani Petrovic doing likewise at the other end for Villa. Foxes defender Hannah Williams cleared off the line to deny Natalie Gibson an equaliser before the break. With two minutes remaining, Villa were awarded a free kick which was floated into the area by Erin Vaughan and Kelly Saggs rose above everyone to power home a header past City keeper Leanne Hall.

OOH Lincoln are up into third place, their highest of the season to date, after beating Curzon Ashton 2-0. Sophie Barker volleyed the Lady Imps in front midway through the first half and Stacey Aisthorpe added the second after the break.

Manchester City made the long journey home from Newcastle Utd a happy one as they returned with a 1-0 victory. Youngster Becky Grocott, who has come through the club's junior section, settled matters with the only goal of the game.

Preston North End lifted themselves into the top half of the table by beating Sheffield Wednesday 4-1. Linny Craig was on target twice, along with Laura Walker and Gemma Watson, while Wednesday replied through Rachel Lee.

Leeds City Vixens ended their run of defeats with a 2-1 success away to Luton Town, who remain at the foot of the table. Meganne Paul and Emily Maguire netted the goals for the Yorkshire side with Luton's consolation coming from Laveena Betts.
